When you think of doughnuts, what springs to mind? The seaside, deep fried, warm doughnuts dipped in sugar? Those are the best kind of doughnuts. Hands down. Or maybe Jam Doughnuts? Light, fluffy doughnut, oozing with tangy Strawberry Jam. Do you ever think of Baked Doughnuts? The dough is essentially the same but instead of been dropped in hot fatty oil, these are baked in the oven without any extra fats being added. They still taste just a good, just as light and fluffy, and will still cause arguments over who gets the last one!
I always think that baking and making your own is better than shop bought. The satisfaction of devouring something you've spent time creating is second to none. It definitely tastes better than shop bought. They do take a little time, but patience is key.

Step Four| Whilst they are in the oven, you need to prepare your toppings and coverings. For the Glazed Doughnuts, mix the Icing Sugar, Cornflour and Water to make a glaze. It shouldn't be too thick, so you can stand a spoon in it, but it should run straight off the doughnut and for the Cinnamon Sugar combine the Sugar and the Cinnamon until mixed. Place these to one side.
Step Five| When the doughnuts are golden, remove them from the oven, if you tap them on the underneath, they should sound hollow, this is how you know they are ready. Allow them to cool slightly but not go cold. If you are using just the Glaze, then dip them in at this point, allow them to set in the fridge so you have a sticky glazed doughnut. If you are using the Cinnamon Sugar, then dip the doughnuts in the glaze, allow most of it to run off, then dip in the sugar, making sure to coat all sides.
These doughnuts are so tasty, you wouldn't know they were a 'healthier' version. They are packed with flavour, light and fluffy and you can have whatever toppings you wanted. You could dip in melted chocolate or drizzle with caramel. Whatever you fancy..
The challenge now is to not eat them in one sitting, good luck!
